Today Karen and I conducted the first successful test of the new telephone notification system. That is, it was the first test, and it happened to be successful. It was kind of silly that I hadn't figured out beforehand how to turn on
the notices, but really it was just that I hadn't asked Karen the right questions, since she knew all along.
So I triggered notices for a couple of sample patron records, one with my phone number and another with Kathy's. Karen and I turned on the notices, and right away I heard two phones ring. While I was listening to the recorded message, I heard an excited squeal from the direction of Kathy's cubicle, and two seconds later she skidded, bouncing, into mine. You have a hold at Algona-Pacific?
I asked, and she nodded enthusiastically. Then we ran to Karen's cubicle to babble excitedly at her too. The test had worked perfectly!
I hadn't thought beforehand to tell Kathy that we were testing at that moment, although in retrospect I'm glad I didn't. It's not every day that someone gets that excited about a pre-recorded phone message. ;-)
Seriously, though, we were grateful for this success at the end of a long and stressful day.
