Today Jeff and I went to the Madrone Peasant's Revel, which was a blast even in the light rain. The festivities included traditional peasant games such as cheese rolling, Wet Rag on a Stick, Clench a Wench, and cabbage ball, all of which were at least as much fun in the rain as in the sun.
I had some trouble with garb for this event. The last event I attended had made me realize that my skirt needed some restoration work, and Jeff didn't have any cool and comfortable summer garb. So yesterday I fixed my skirt, and this morning I finished Jeff's shirt enough that he could at least wear it. (The neck and cuffs still don't have closures, because Jeff hasn't decided what he wants yet.) I ironed my apron and coif and also freshly starched and ironed my cloth headdress before I pinned it to my head.
In the end, my attention to garb paid off, because I won the prize for Best Looking Like a Peasant
! The prize was a lovely stoneware bowl. I shall have to tell my mother, who will be pleased that the garb we made has won me a prize.
Jeff, for his part, did not win any prize but was the victor at Bobbing for Penny Loaves.
