Kitty hospital

Monday evening Horace had a fit of scratching at his left ear, so Tuesday Jeff and I took him to the vet. But I didn't realize it wasn't a walk-in clinic, so we made an appointment for that afternoon and went back home. Poor Horace had to be bundled into the carrier not once but twice, and he was not happy with us, at least briefly. You might have thought the second time getting him into the carrier would be harder, but it wasn't. I didn't even wait for him to go to sleep before I put him in.

He didn't act like my cats always did at the vet; he just lay there on the table, glaring at us, and didn't try to claw or to get back into the carrier. The vet took him away and cleaned his ear out. She said that he shook his head and a great lump of wax came flying out, so maybe that's what was bothering him. I've got some antibiotic ear drops to put in twice a day, for a little swelling or irritation inside his ear, and we're to take him back if he's not better in a couple of weeks.

Horace glared at us even harder after he got his ear cleaned (the worst wet willy of his life, Jeff said), but a couple of hours later he'd forgotten already and was soliciting affection just as always. Then I put the eardrops in (not very successfully until I started holding him immobile by the back of the neck), and he shook his head and stalked off. I suppose I should start petting him a little before putting the drops in, or else he'll start avoiding me completely for the sake of the ear drops. He may not be happy about the treatment, but I can tell that his ear is feeling better already.

Addendum: It's hard to get exactly three drops into an ear that flaps at every opportunity.
