Stephen says:
So what was the scam? Virus?
Laurabelle says:
Yes, it's a virus, or rather a worm. It's called Beagle. Aquarion got it even before I did, and it's been going around KCLS. Not one of the smartest worms, really.
Stephen says:
I sometimes think people should have to pass some sort of licensing exam before they are allowed to open attachments. I had a boss once-- every attachment that came his way, he opened; there was no stopping him. And of course, he was hooked up to the network, so...
Actually, about the licensing thing-- I think I would need only require it of people who have MSN, AOL, or Earthlink as their ISP.
Laurabelle says:
Well, technically AOL is my ISP. (One of them. I actually have several providers of internet services, but only one gives me a 'net connection from my place of residence.) That's because I share DSL with my landlords, who are AOL users. Noises have been made about how much this bites and how much better it would be if we had a Real ISP, but I'm just happy to have DSL that works most of the time for $27 per month rather than $80.
On the other hand, once I move out (which will happen once I graduate), I will never give AOL the time of day again.
Laurabelle says:
Hmm. My last comment was the first comment ever that my filter automagically designated as spam, which is rather ironic. Obviously I don't have enough data yet. (I didn't even use the P word, or the E word either, which I'm not going to use here either because I don't want to dilute their power as predictors of spammishness.) I wish I knew what it was in my text that made it so spammy. It got 95% probability!
