Truck’ll eat anything

Sun, 15 Feb 2004

On Friday Jeff and I didn’t want to cook, so we went to a splendid little restaurant in Wallingford called Au Bouchon. Jeff stopped there on his way home from UW, and I met him from the other direction. That way we arrived just before 6:30 in the evening, and that was a good thing, because all the tables filled up fairly quickly, and we didn’t have a reservation. If we had arrived any later, we certainly would not have been seated right away.

The food was, of course, exquisite. Jeff had an endive salad and halibut stuffed with crab (I think). I had some delicious kind of soup (I can’t remember what kind) with melted goat cheese in it, and my main course was boeuf bourguignon. I think I would have preferred the halibut, simply because the red wine sauce was a little too rich for me, but that’s not the chef’s fault. The meal ended up costing quite a bit more than we had intended, but I left an generous tip for the excellent service. After all, we didn’t go there to save money.

When we came back to my house afterwards, Mary asked us if we wanted some pie. We demurred, pleading full stomachs, but Pete said, Oh, Truck’ll eat anything.

*laugh* Since when did Jeff become "Truck"? I mean, it's humorous, but I don't understand the reasoning. (I feel like I'm asking to explain "u-haul" in the News, too. *chuckle*)

Pure randomness on Pete's part, I'm sure.
