The ultimate open-book test

Open-book? Heck, it was open-library.

Today I took the first part of my final exam for 521, the one we practiced for almost two weeks ago. It was pretty hard, though I'm fairly sure that I did acceptably well. I'm more than slightly relieved by the fact that reference services in general only give the complete, correct answer about 55% of the time (leading librarians to decide that they need to find another measure by which they do better, thus being nice is more important than being right, but that's another story). It was also very panic-alleviating that Joe told me he himself wouldn't have gotten them all right either. After all, we only have two hours, and he spent 45 minutes banging his head against the wall, trying to find the answer to one of the questions that was on this test.

While I was running around Suzzallo Reference like a madwoman, slinging almanacs and encyclopedias, one diligent student worker asked me if I was finding everything I needed. I responded that it was for a test, and he said Well, if you need anything, so I said I'm not allowed to ask for help, and at last he left me alone. I found it fairly amusing that this is probably the only area of study where I have to fend off people who want to help me cheat on my test.

Unfortunately I'm only half-done with the exam. I will complete the second half on Wednesday afternoon, which is the only time I have to do it, Thursday through Sunday being completely booked and the test being due on Monday morning.
