Lady of the dance

Sun, 9 Mar 2003

I just got home from the St. Bunstable/Porte de l'Eau Day of Dance/Winter Maskerade. It was smashing fun.

I put on my plain garb at home, fixed my hair for the evening, and wore it on the bus, complete with draped headdress, which drew funny looks from bus drivers and other mundanes. I think they thought I was Amish or something. I learned dances all afternoon, had dinner with lots of other SCA people at the Mongolian grill on the Ave, changed into my fancy garb, and danced all evening. I had tons of fun, got lots of compliments, and was very disappointed to have to change out of that garb to come home. I passed fairly quickly through the uncomfortable stage into the one where the corset props me up because I'm so tired. The dancing is all kind of a blur now, because it was so much fun, and there were so many steps and turns and above all partners.

After the second dance set there was Baronial Court, where people got honors and things, and we all cheered, and members of Bunstable (including YHN) swore fealty (as a College, not as individuals) to the Baron and Baroness. I take that oath seriously; it's basically to serve and protect and be loyal to Fiach and Anne-Marie, and to consult them and take their advice, but I find that I now feel like a Real Member of St. Bunstable, even though I haven't (yet) paid membership dues to the SCA.

I really must go to bed now, but oh, that was fun, and oh, I don't want to let it go!
