Praise the Lord and pass the ammo

The UW College Republicans had a rally on Saturday in support of US troops. I must admit I find this a bit of a joke, kind of like Conservative Awareness Month. UW has an enrollment of about 40,000, and the rally pulled about 60 people. Face it guys, you're in Seattle.

Officially the rally wasn't supposed to be pro-war, just about supporting troops, but I'd rather support them by not having a war at all. Certainly alogans like Lets roll, death to jihad, Save U.S. lives, drop U.S. bombs, and Praise the Lord and pass the ammo sound like a pro-war protest to me...

I am sympathizing more with Jonathon Delacour's not wanting to protest alongside people with whose agendas he doesn't agree. I'm all for supporting U.S. troops! I don't blame them for being sent overseas to a war they may not want either, and I admire their commitment to duty. But I will not see myself counted among the numbers of people who care nothing about the cost to non-American lives.

Funny thing is, I'm not really concerned about a terrorist attack. Sure, it could happen. Anything could happen, and if it did, that would be horrible. But I don't see how bombing the crap out of another country's population (one which has already been impoverished and emaciated by economic sanctions) can possibly be a good thing. Nothing's forcing us to go to war with them. See, they can live, our troops can live, everybody's happy, right?
